“All About Them”
Merry Christmas Saturday! Yes, Saturday during Christmas is usually a busy, busy day. Stores are normally booming with folks and the streets are filled with travelers moving from one place to another. That’s a normal Christmastime, but what about this year? Are the streets filled with traffic and the stores filled with people?
“Normal” has certainly changed this year. “Normally,” Saturdays are the days that we enjoy each other’s company, especially during the Holidays. But this year, one of the most noticeable differences will be the inability to physically connect to some of our loved ones. Many travel plans have been greatly reduced if not completely scrapped this year. Yet, just because we are separated by distance doesn’t mean that we can’t stay connected to our loved ones.
This year, possibly more than ever, it is important to remember to connect with loved ones. This has been a very difficult year for everyone, but for those who are unable to travel, those who live in facilities, and those who live alone, this Holiday Season will be very difficult. Why? Because this year has been more difficult for them than anyone, but mostly because the highlight of their Holidays is the time they spend with you!
Today, take a few minutes to consider those loved ones who are away from you this year. Yes, it’s been a struggle for you with virtual school and work, but it’s been especially difficult for those who are literally “stuck”. Start early this Holiday Season on a new project by calling or texting your distant loved ones today. Check on them and let them know that they are loved and missed. A regular check-in with your loved ones will bring more smiles than any gift you can send them!
“Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4, NRSV)
