“No Comparison”
God’s work cannot be compared to anything else. When we try to compare it to something we have already experienced, we may actually be limiting what God is doing.
Thankfully, God takes care of many things that are far beyond our understanding. In nature, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, language, and everything else, God remains the master creator and instructor.
At times, I wish I had control of things. I wish I could understand life well enough that I would never feel anxious or fearful. I wish I could see the future more clearly so that I could warn others and keep everyone safe. I wish I could understand why bad things happen so that I could help people through difficult moments, including myself.
But God already holds all of that. God knows it all and keeps the wind blowing, the waters flowing, and the land growing.
Sometimes I wish I knew all of this. Yet at the same time, I am thankful that I do not. I do not want to have that kind of control because I would probably mess it up. I do not want to know everything because I might become even more anxious about life.
Yet that is exactly what we sometimes do. We measure the present and the future only by what has already happened in the past. When we do that, we limit the countless new and wonderful things God may be preparing for us.
Today is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, a time that reminds us that God is always creating something new. Take a moment today to pray and talk with God about what lies ahead. The specific details may not matter as much as we think, because God already has them ordered and arranged.
Our calling is simply to remain faithful and trust that God’s plans for each of us will be new, surprising, and wonderful.
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?”Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)
