 Lent Day 22, Wednesday, March 11, 2026

“Tell Someone You Love Them”

When was the last time you told someone you love them?  Was it a family member, a grandchild, a close friend, or even a neighbor?

This week, we have been exploring ways to overcome the barriers that sometimes grow between us and others. Sometimes a specific event creates distance. At other times, time and geography slowly pull people apart.  Occasionally, the barrier is something quieter, such as carelessness, hesitation, or struggles with our own sense of worth.

Whatever the reason, once again, today’s challenge is simple: Express your love out loud.

For some people, this comes naturally. For others, it feels awkward or unnecessary. Some of us assume people already know how we feel, so we never say the words.  But a simple “I love you” can mean more than we realize.

Sometimes the words will bounce lightly off someone who already feels secure in your love. Other times, those words may land deeply, offering comfort and reassurance that someone needed to hear.  Whatever the response may be, that part is not our responsibility. Our responsibility is simply to express love.

Why today? Because there is no better day.

Every day belongs to God, and every person we encounter belongs to God, as well. Love is one of the greatest gifts we have been given, and sharing it costs us nothing.

Today, tell someone you love them.  Do not assume they already know. Do not wait for a perfect moment. Do not let hesitation or busyness steal the opportunity.

Love is one of the greatest gifts God has placed within us, and it was never meant to be hidden or kept quiet. The love we share with others flows from the love God has already given to us.

Today, simply say the words. Tell someone you love them.

“We love because God first loved us.”  (1 John 4:19, CEB)
