“Contact Someone Who Needs Help”
Who do you know that needs help?
I suspect you know someone! Most of us are willing to help when we are asked. Otherwise, we probably would not be taking the time to read a daily devotion. Today’s Lenten challenge is slightly different. Instead of waiting to be asked, take the first step. Make the offer.
Asking for help can be difficult. Many people value independence. They do not want to inconvenience others or feel like a burden. Because of that, real needs often go unspoken. That is why attentiveness matters. If we pay attention, we will likely notice someone who could use a hand.
The help may be practical: Loading groceries, moving a piece of furniture, or taking a car in for service. You could offer a spare bed for visiting family, drive someone to an appointment, or prepare a meal.
Sometimes help can be even simpler, such as a phone call, a text, a quick visit, or a “Wellness check.” Indeed, you know someone.
If today is not the right moment, keep it on your radar for tomorrow. Be intentional. Open your eyes. Listen closely. The second week of Lent begins with an outward focus. As we dream again and grow in faith, we are reminded that our growth is never meant to stop with us. Others can and should be included.
Reach out. Make the call. Offer the help.
You might make all the difference. You may be the answer to someone’s quiet prayer today.
“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NLT)
