“Go To Sleep Early”
Finally, after a few challenging days during Lent, today’s challenge should feel like a welcome change. Go to sleep early. Who could argue with more sleep?
Of course, “early” is a little subjective. For some people, 10:00 pm feels early on a Saturday night. For others, 8:00 pm might already feel late. The exact time is up to you.
The reason for today’s challenge is obvious: Tonight is the start of Daylight Saving Time. Before going to bed, most of us will need to set our clocks forward by one hour. That means if you go to bed and wake up at your normal times, you will lose an hour of sleep. To stay ahead of the game, tonight’s challenge is to head to bed about an hour earlier than usual. It is a simple adjustment, but it can make tomorrow morning much easier. After all, most of us would like to arrive at church on time. If the clocks are not changed, someone will show up an hour late. It happens every year. And if we lose an hour of sleep without planning ahead, we may not be the most cheerful people at church (or anywhere else).
Tonight's challenge is really about preparing the mind, body, and soul for the days ahead. A little extra rest can make a big difference.
Go to bed early tonight. Your body will thank you tomorrow.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)
