“Reconcile With Someone”
The most difficult challenge of the Lenten Season has appeared once again. Today’s challenge is to reconcile with someone.
This challenge comes up every year, but this time we are facing it a little earlier in the season. The reason is simply to go ahead and get it done. If it cannot happen today, we still have several more weeks during Lent to continue working toward it.
Most of us would agree that reconciliation is important, especially with loved ones who have become separated from us. Yet we often run into the same obstacle. Each of us believes that it is the other person’s responsibility to make the first move. Whether we are quietly waiting for them to reach out or stubbornly digging in our heels, none of us likes to become that vulnerable.
The reasons for our separation may even feel justified. The other person may seem hateful, ignorant, or selfish. We may be convinced that our version of the story is completely correct and that the other person will never admit their mistake. Perhaps the situation is partly our fault, and we simply do not want to face that truth.
This is why prayer is so important. Give this situation to God. Do not try to handle it entirely on your own. Lean on God’s strength, wisdom, and guidance. If you do, your chances of success will be much greater.
Even if you reach out and the other person does not respond or receive you, you will know that you have done the right thing. You cannot control their response. You cannot change their heart. But you can make a faithful effort.
And no matter what happens, God will notice.
“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14, NLT)
