 Lent Day 13, Monday, Mar 1, 2021

“Healthy Habits”

Who doesn’t need to begin a healthy habit? This isn’t a difficult question to answer because all of us would benefit from a new, healthy habit. However, choosing which habit to begin today is another story. With so many options to choose from, how do we choose which habit to start?

During the season of Lent, many folks choose to focus on spiritual health. Reading the Bible, intentional prayer, small group studies, and worship attendance (in-person or online) would suffice for a good spiritual habit. Other folks tend to focus on physical and mental health during Lent. Additional exercise and healthy dietary choices would qualify as physical health while reading books and engaging in some form of personal education would help to improve our mental health.

Interested in finding some helpful emotional habits? Reconnecting or reconciling with family and friends works well to improve emotional health, as does seeking opportunities to begin and develop new relationships (new friends). Forgiving oneself and accepting our own, special value is also very positive to help us develop new and healthy means of increasing self-worth.

Remember, God has already provided everything we need to become the best we can be. Choosing to focus on these blessings can be very helpful because we are able to acknowledge that our lives are already rich with an abundance of hope, love, and joy.

What will it be today? Will we choose a mental, physical, spiritual, or emotional habit to begin? Pick something that has a great opportunity for success between now and Easter. For no other reason, picking something with a high probability of success allows us to eliminate the most popular excuse, “It’s too difficult for me.”

Pick a new, healthy habit today!

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
