 Lent Day 14, Tuesday, Mar 2, 2021

“Far, Far Away...But Not Today!”

How far away are they?  Do our loved ones live a few blocks down the street or are they hundreds (if not thousands) of miles away from us?  Sure, some of us might be living in the Kingdom of Far, Far Away, but we can’t forget everyone who lives back in the swamp.  Yes, even Shrek can’t deny his need to maintain loving contact with Donkey, Puss, Pinnochio, the Three Blind Mice, and the Gingerbread Man.  And, of course, Shrek can’t stand a minute without talking to his special love, Fiona.

Today’s Challenge is to initiate contact with a family member or loved one who is far away.  For me, it brings to mind the animated story of Shrek.  Shrek lives in the swamp and prefers to be by himself until a host of new, close friends open his eyes to the rest of the world.  Can he do it alone?  Sure, alone is possible.  But Shrek learns that sharing together is so much better!

This is the day to share yourself with a family member (or close loved one) who is far, far away.  How far away are they?  When was the last time you spoke to them?  What’s the excuse for not talking with them?  Today is the day to overcome the excuse and make it happen.

Whether you live in the swamp with Shrek and Fiona or in the kingdom of Far, Far Away with the king and queen, reach out and share some love today!

“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”  (Romans 12:10, ESV).
